Adult ADHD Evaluation & Treatment with the full picture in view.
A thoughtful virtual evaluation of focus, organization, impulsivity and follow-through concerns to understand whether ADHD or another factor may be contributing.
When Might an Adult ADHD Evaluation Be Helpful?
Some adults notice attention-related concerns early in life, while others become more aware of them as work, school, parenting or other responsibilities become more demanding.
Focus & Sustained Attention
Difficulty staying with tasks, following conversations or maintaining attention when sustained focus is required.
Organization & Time
Challenges with planning, prioritizing, remembering responsibilities or accurately managing time.
Impulsivity or Restlessness
Acting quickly, interrupting, feeling internally restless or having difficulty slowing down in certain situations.
Completing Important Tasks
Difficulty beginning, organizing or finishing tasks even when they are important or personally meaningful.
Attention concerns do not always mean ADHD.
Similar symptoms can occur with anxiety, depression, trauma, sleep problems, substance use, medical conditions and other factors. Evaluation looks at the pattern and context of your symptoms before diagnosis or treatment options are discussed.
A Comprehensive Adult ADHD Evaluation
ADHD assessment looks at how attention-related concerns developed over time, where they occur and how they affect everyday functioning.
Current Symptoms
Attention, organization, impulsivity, restlessness, task completion and other concerns affecting everyday life.
History Over Time
When symptoms began, how they appeared earlier in life and whether similar patterns have been present across adulthood.
Daily Functioning
How attention concerns affect work, school, responsibilities, relationships, organization and time management.
Mental Health
Anxiety, mood symptoms, trauma-related concerns, stress and other psychiatric factors that may influence attention or functioning.
Sleep & Health Factors
Sleep quality, medical history, current medications, substance use and other health factors relevant to concentration or executive functioning.
Previous Care
Prior evaluations, diagnoses, medication trials, therapy or other treatment that may clarify the overall clinical picture.
Not Every Attention Problem Is ADHD
Difficulty concentrating can occur with anxiety, depression, trauma, sleep disruption, substance use, medication effects, medical conditions and other concerns. A comprehensive evaluation considers these possibilities before diagnosis or treatment recommendations are discussed.
ADHD Treatment Should Fit the Person
If ADHD is diagnosed, treatment is based on your clinical needs, health history, preferences, goals and how symptoms affect everyday life.
Education
Understanding ADHD patterns, triggers and their effects on everyday functioning can support more informed treatment decisions.
Practical Strategies
Care may include discussing organization, routines, planning and other practical approaches that support day-to-day functioning.
Medication When Appropriate
Medication may be considered when clinically appropriate after evaluation, with discussion of benefits, risks, alternatives and follow-up needs.
Ongoing Follow-Up
Follow-up may review symptoms, functioning, treatment response, side effects and whether the current plan remains appropriate.
Virtual ADHD Care
Adult ADHD evaluations and ongoing psychiatric follow-up are offered virtually for eligible patients in North Dakota, Minnesota and Arizona.
At the time of your visit, you must be physically located in a state where Dr. Sylvia is authorized to provide care and join from a private location with reliable internet and working audio and video.
Medication & Insurance
An ADHD evaluation does not guarantee medication or any particular medication. When medication is part of the treatment plan, follow-up may include monitoring response, side effects and whether the approach remains appropriate.
